Due to the current status of Covid-19 in the UK, Excelcare has limited visits to all of its care homes to protect the team members, residents and their relatives.
Visits from family members are important to the residents and their wellbeing, so team members are finding ways to keep them connected, without being physically together.
At Goldenley Care Home, team members are supporting the residents with facetime calls to their loved ones allowing for safe, personal communication. They have been taking emails and contact details from relatives to upload on their shared iPads, meaning residents can call or answer calls from their loved ones wherever they are!
This has been particularly effective for residents based in their rooms as they get the experience of a face to face visit, from the comfort of their beds or chairs.
Joyce, a resident at Goldenley, was overjoyed when she received a facetime call from her daughter this week. Some of the residents are completely new to this technology, so they were amazed to see what could be done.
Joyce was one of these residents and when her daughter appeared on the screen, her face lit up! They sat and spoke, as they usually would during their visits, and had an enjoyable time sharing stories, catching up and sending their love.
This really helped to brighten Joyce's day and meant she could relax in the knowledge that her family are well.
This also helped to put Joyce's daughter at ease and she was grateful that she could see and talk to her mum, without putting people at risk.
Team members at the care home will continue to support residents with video calls and other types of safe communication, ensuring they can keep in touch with their loved ones during this time.
