The people living at Glennfield Care Home in Wisbech recently enjoyed a festive visit to the local Baytree Winter Wonderland in Spalding.
This had been a wish for the people living at the home this year, as they used to go to Baytree Winter Wonderland annually pre-COVID. So, of course, the team had to make it happen. It was great to get everyone back into the community again.
Everyone was so excited as they travelled there in the local FACT bus. There were so many excited whispers about the adventures to come. As they got off the bus, they were met with a festive wonderland to walk through, with lots of Christmassy scenes to look at and animated animals to talk to. During this time, they also partook in a train ride around the penguin wonderland, where they just so happened to spot Santa’s reindeer flying overhead!
After they got through the wonderland walkthrough they arrived at Santa’s grotto, where one of the elves introduced them to the merry man himself. The residents took a wonderful picture with Santa Claus and were sure to double check that they are on the good list this year. Santa confirmed that they were and reminded them to leave a carrot out for Rudolph, and a mince pie and a glass of milk for him.
When leaving the grotto, they spotted a sign showing what their elf names would be according to the first letter of their names, as well as the months they were born in. It was great fun calculating everyone’s names and brought plenty of laughter as some of the names were really funny!
For lunch, everybody sat down at the Baytree restaurant, with fish and chips, sausage and mash and festive turkey roast being the most popular choices. It was a great chance to rest and refuel in anticipation of the outlet shopping they did afterwards. Residents bought a variety of things, including festive ornaments for their room and Christmas cards to send to loved ones.
It was a wonderful day, and everyone returned to Glennfield with big smiles on their faces, eager to share the fun they had over a cuppa! The Winter Wonderland was spoken about for days after, proving that it was a big hit among the people living at the home.
