It was a day of lively celebrations at Glennfield Care Home recently as the team hosted their own carnival inspired by the annual Notting Hill Carnival.
The Notting Hill Carnival is an annual street party which takes place in London each year and celebrates cultures around the world with a variety of music, exotic foods, and colourful themed floats with performers on.
Everyone who attends the carnival wears bright colours and traditional clothing, so the team at Glennfield wanted to replicate this at the carnival they planned to host.
Ahead of the party, the team sat with the people living at Glennfield and watched a couple of performers on YouTube to see who they should book for their event. One steel drum musician called King Don was a big hit with the residents as they liked the tropical sound of the music he played, so the team sent an email and booked him for their carnival.
Friends and family members were invited to attend their carnival, and began decorating the home with colourful decorations.
When Carnival Day finally arrived, there was a lively atmosphere around Glennfield. The eccentric outfits helped to brighten the home and the live steel drum performance from King Don got everyone up on their feet and dancing.
The team served a buffet lunch featuring foods from around the world and a variety of alcohol-free cocktails. Everyone was having fun and there were sounds of people laughing throughout the afternoon.
The Deputy Mayor of Wisbech, Peter Human and the Deputy Mayoress, Janet Tanfield attended the event in the afternoon, sampled the food and even had a go at playing the steel drums. They also took time to speak with the team, residents and their family members which they all appreciated.
It was a lively day and Glennfield and many happy memories were made.
