The people living at Ashlyn Care Home in Essex are very big fans of a game session, and the team are always happy to oblige.
The team at the home know just how important games and quizzes can be for cognitive function, and so try to incorporate varied and interesting games into the activities timetable on a regular basis.
This month, the home has indulged in a variety of different games and activities. The middle of April found them playing ‘Guess the tune’, ‘Guess the item’ and trying to conquer a variety of different riddles.
‘Guess the tune’ is a firm favourite for both the team and the people living at the home, as it is an excellent memory exercise and always a great excuse for a singalong. The team like to play ‘Guess the item’ for a similar reason, as it is a game designed to boost memory, concentration, and verbal skills by igniting new pathways and connections to the brain.
Other favourites of the people living at the home include word searches, crosswords and sudoku, and the team are always happy to adapt these for everyone involved. Depending on who is playing, they design them to be easier, harder, or work in group or 1 to 1 sessions.
Games are taken very seriously at Ashlyn, and it will be fun to see which game they play next.
