Every year, Christmas adverts become a popular talking point amongst the general public, with large companies like McDonalds and John Lewis battling it out to see who can release the most emotional festive advert. This year, the team at Fitzwilliam House Care Home decided to get involved in the discussion, gathered the people that live in the home to watch one and judge for themselves.
Amy, Fitzwilliam’s Lifestyle Coordinator thought it would be a lovely idea to gather everybody at Fitzwilliam together to watch John Lewis’ current Christmas Advert.
This year’s John Lewis advert centres around the slogan ‘Give a little love’, encouraging people to give a little more love and make the world a better place. Amy thought that it was such a topical, poignant message and that it would be a great one for the people at the home to discuss.
After watching the advert, everybody went around and shared their own interpretations of it with each other. The general consensus was that it was a lovely advert with great music, songs, colours and characters with friendly faces. They especially loved the way that the hearts were created in each little segment, and thought that it was a very clever way of showing the importance of giving love.
Amy then came up with a way for the residents to spread the message and give a little of their own love this Christmas. They each chose different coloured wool and wrapped it around a cardboard cut-out of a love heart shape.
These hearts now hand up in Fitzwilliam, so everybody in the home can have a little bit of love.
