During the month of April, the people living in Excelcare homes were taken on a virtual tour of India as part of the Excelcare World Cruise.
This initiative is taking place across the Excelcare family throughout 2022, where each month, residents are taken on a virtual trip to different countries so they can experience food, drinks, experiences and culture of the selected country. The aim is to introduce residents to cultures from around the world and bring different experiences to them every month.
Across the family, team members hosted a variety of activities and found engaging ways to bring a taste of India into their homes.
At Sweyne Court Care Home in Rayleigh, the team put on a traditional Indian banquet, which included Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Korma, Naan Bread, Indian Coconut Cake and lots of other delicious items. Team members also wore sarees to work to immerse everyone in the virtual trip.
Residents said how delicious the food was and how it brought back memories for the people who had visited India in the past. Later in the week, the team hosted an educational session about India, where facts about the country and its heritage were shared. People then enjoyed painting the colours on an Indian flag template, whilst learning the meaning behind the different elements of the flag. The saffron means strength and courage, the white means peace and truth, the green means fertility and growth and the 24 spoke wheel in blue signifies the 24 hours in a day. The team also hosted an Indian quiz to test people's new knowledge which added some friendly competition and lots of fun.
At Sherrell House Care Home in Chigwell, the team, also wore traditional Indian dress to work and hosted a delicious Indian buffet.
Residents enjoyed the change of uniform and said how the colours on their clothes brightened up the room. The freshly cooked Indian food also went down a treat and lots of people commented about how flavourful the food was!
Another activity that proved to be popular was when the team hosted an Indian dance session. First, the team showed off their moves to residents, before teaching those who wanted to learn. It was lots of fun and they enjoyed picking up some new dance moves!
Meanwhile, at Etheldred House in Histon, the home was filled with energy and fun as the team hosted a Bollywood inspired day. They played Bollywood music in the background and encouraged people to dance along. People wore traditional clothes to immerse themselves in the virtual trip and also enjoyed the variety of food and activities that were hosted
