Wednesday 7th April was National Walking Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the act of walking. The people living at Etheldred House Care Home in Cambridge wanted to participate, so the team ensured that they made it special.
It was bitterly cold outside, but they managed to overcome this by staging their walking event in the home. The residents got their steps in by walking up and down the corridors of the building. They had great fun as they imagined outside scenery, which encouraged them to walk just that bit further. Some said that they were imagining a forest full of bluebells, others said that they were walking along a train track to catch a train, and others chose to picture themselves walking by the sea.
After their energetic walk, they all relaxed with a cup of tea as they watched the Four Villages Orchestra DVD: a group of musicians and singers from Cambridgeshire. They enjoyed this very much and it was the perfect way to wind down from their walks.
As if that were not enough stimulation for the day, after lunch everybody gathered to make some spectacular sunflowers. The team assembles some bright yellow and orange paper, then fresh brown lentils and long white beans were stick in the middle of the flowers to create the illusion of sunflower seeds. The result was very realistic looking, and everybody was so proud.
It truly was a great, eventful day and left everybody with a smile on their face.
