The team at Goldenley Care Home were recently grateful to receive a little helper for the day.
Edie is the daughter of Katie, an Administrator at the home, who brought her in to meet residents and support the team for the day.
Edie is only 21 months old but looked very grown up on the day as she sat at her mum’s desk. As residents walked past, they had to take a double look when they saw little Edie at Katie’s desk. They all stopped to say hello and interact with her which raised many smiles.
Intergenerational relationships are very beneficial for the people living at Goldenley. They help to improve personal wellbeing, communication skills and give people an increased sense of purpose. This is because they can play an active role in children’s education, act as a role model for them and share their life’s wisdom. This is especially beneficial for people who don’t have grandchildren of their own, as it provides them with the opportunity to develop relationships with children in their early years.
After Edie had eaten her sausage roll, she was ready to help her mum and the team. She trotted along behind them and supported with little tasks like turning on the hoover for Molly.
As they made their way around the home, Edie met more of the people who live there and left many smiling faces in her path.
Everyone enjoyed Edie’s company in the morning and said they would love to see her again. After all of the help and joy Edie brought, Katie said she will definitely bring her back soon.
