Easter baskets delight the residents of Park Avenue

The residents of Park Avenue were delighted this Easter weekend when Christine and Gillian stopped by at the home to deliver some handmade Easter baskets.

Ellen is Christine and Gillian’s mother and lives at Park Avenue Care Home. Making these filled Easter baskets was a tradition she started many years ago and involves knitting different colour baby chicks and putting them in woven baskets.

Ellen showed Christine and Gillian how to make these Easter baskets some years back, and it’s since been something they like to continue. “Mum got us started on these many years ago and we will always carry on the tradition now that she cannot,” said Christine.

Knowing the memories this would bring back for their mother and the joy it was spread across the home, Christine and Gillian made a selection of Easter baskets filled with multicoloured, knitted chicks for all the residents. They also filled baskets with chocolate eggs, so everyone could have a nibble on something sweet with their favourite hot drink.

After dropping off the baskets at Park Avenue, the team went around to deliver the eggs and Easter chicks to the residents. They also made a special visit to Ellen’s room to show her what had arrived, who was delighted to see her tradition being continued.

The other people living at Park Avenue thought it was a very thoughtful gesture and they enjoyed admiring the small, knitted chicks.
