Denise, a resident at Hunters Down Care Home was delighted when Hairdresser, Jackie, recently returned.
The latest easing of Government restrictions has allowed care homes to welcome back visiting hairdressers, so people can receive much-needed trims!
It’s not just the haircuts they have missed, as sessions in the salon also provide people with time to sit and chat to Jackie, hear about what she’s been up to and share their stories from recent weeks. It’s great for personal wellbeing and whenever they get out of the chair, they leave the room feeling and looking great!
In Denise’s recent time in the salon, she had her hair cut, styled, and blow-dried, ready for a visit with her two daughters. When they arrived, they said she looked stunning and were happy to see their mum looking so well. They took a selfie together and put it in their family WhatsApp group so everyone could see!
After seeing this, Denise’s son Mark, who works on the local Radio, wanted to do something special for his mum, so decided he would play a song for her when she was next in the salon at Hunters Down. He arranged this with Jackie to ensure the correct radio station was playing and that her appointment was at the right time.
When Denise heard her son, Mark do a special shoutout on the radio for her and introduce her favourite song, her face lit up! Tears ran down her cheek as the song played and she was swaying her arms in time to the music.
It was a wonderful moment to be a part of and Jackie was delighted that she could help to make this special moment possible.
Denise has always had a love for music and used to play in local bars and clubs around Huntingdon to help earn some extra money to raise her five children.
When mark first started on the radio station, Denise would always listen to him, so during his shows he would play something by Joe Brown as he is one of her favourite artists. On his way home, he would stop by to visit his mum and ask, “were you listening today?” and she would respond “yes” and state the name of one of the songs he had played.
This recent moment helped to bring back fond memories from when Mark first started on the radio and would do these little surprises for his mum. Even to this day, they carried the same emotional impact.
Witnessing these special moments is emotional for team members too as it’s wonderful to see the people they care for so happy.
