Hunters Down Care Home recently welcomed Stephen, an entertainer who performs cabaret shows in the style of Danny La Rue.
Danny La Rue was a popular drag act in the 60s, 70s and 80s who entertained crowds with his flamboyant dress sense, comedic style and tuneful vocals. He was showbiz icon of his era and did shows across the world.
Lots of the people living at Hunters Down remember Danny La Rue, so when Stephen came out dressed in Danny’s traditional style, they immediately recognised who he was playing.
Danny began by performing some of La Rue’s best-known songs, which included ‘On Mother Kelly’s Doorstep’, ‘Peggy O’Neil’ and ‘Daisy Daisy’ to name a few.
Everyone enjoyed watching the tribute act and many were up on their feet dancing along to the songs. Halfway through the show, Stephen changed into another of Danny’s costumes, and many enjoyed admiring the sparkles and sequins on the dress.
Joan, who lives at Hunters Down, said she really enjoyed the singing and the costumes he wore. She used to be a singer herself, so watching this tribute act brought back many happy memories from her past.
The team thought this would be a welcome change to the entertainers they usually welcome to the home, and they were right, as everyone thoroughly enjoyed the show.
The team will definitely be welcoming Stephen back to perform another Danny La Rue tribute act soon!
