During a recent social session at Etheldred House Care Home, residents were talking about blossom trees and how beautifully they have flowered this year.
This discussion gave the team a brilliant idea for a craft activity the residents could enjoy. Not only would it encourage more conversation about plants, but also engage them in a creative activity.
The idea was for the residents to make their own blossom trees, taking inspiration from the fallen petals outside. The team collected all of the things they would need and laid them out on a table, as well as some offcuts from the garden that people could copy. Residents commented on the bright colours of the petals and the strong scent they gave off.
To start their design, pieces of cardboard were cut out and painted brown to mimic a stem, before residents began sticking scrunched up pieces of tissue paper to them to mimic blossom petals. The different coloured pieces of paper made the branches really stand out.
After they were all finished, the team sprayed each person’s art with a flowery perfume to make them smell like the blossom trees outside. The art was then hung up to brighten the wall and bring some of the colourful outdoors, onside!
Everyone had a brilliant day and look forward to getting involved in more flower-themed art throughout the summer months.
