Our homes were extremely busy in the lead up to Christmas, and Dovecote Manor in Milton Keynes was no different!
In the week leading up to the special day, the team thought it would be jolly to wear something festive each day to help keep spirits high. On Wednesday 23rd December they went one step further, naming the Wednesday ‘Elf day’ and donning elf tops and costumes. Team member Cliff’s elf costume was a particular favourite among the people living at Dovecote as it was designed to look like two elves and brought double the mischief!
Every year, Dovecote are also fortunate to receive wonderful Christmas donations from families, team members and the local community. These can range from boxes of chocolates to bottles of mulled wine and more. This year was no exception, and everyone was so thankful, but they were stunned by one donation in particular…
Dovecote’s very own Domestic Assistant Paula donated the most beautifully detailed gingerbread house. It was decorated from head to toe with edible lights, snowmen and even an edible sleigh. The gingerbread house was marvelled at by everyone in the home until Christmas Eve, when it was deconstructed and shared among them all. It was the perfect accompaniment for their hot cups of Christmas Eve tea.
Finally, ‘twas the night before Christmas and Santa came to visit! St Nicholas himself dropped by Dovecote Manor to spread happiness to all the residents on Christmas Eve by waving to them from the garden. Everyone’s faces lit up with joy as they waved and interacted from their windows. Santa even brought his little helper along, who played music as he hopped from window to window. Even the team got to meet him – socially distanced of course!
Overall, the team at Dovecote ensured that this Christmas was just as, if not more, special this year given the circumstances. Everybody had a great time and they look forward to seeing what they pull out of their hats next year!
