Residents of Etheldred House Care Home in Cambridge recently took part in a Christmas craft project during activity sessions. The team set them the challenge of creating some Christmas decorations to display at the home as well as some cards they could send to family and friends.
To start this off they made some wonderful Christmas wreaths using tissue paper for the centre, then constructed flowers to place around the edge. This was then finished off with a red ribbon to hang them up.
Another activity was to make a Christmas scene using items they had at the home. This was achieved by using a wicker basket and putting some coloured ribbon around it. Artificial snow was then placed inside with a pottery house and cones to look like trees. The finished product looked brilliant and will be placed in a communal space for everyone to enjoy!
Residents also made a selection of decorations to hang on the tree. To do this, Lifestyle Coordinators gave the residents templates of Christmas puddings, Christmas Stockings and Christmas Stars which they could decorate using paints, glitter and pens. The finished decorations looked great and have since been hung on the tree, creating a masterpiece the people of the home can be proud of.
Another well enjoyed activity involved making Christmas biscuits. To do this, they rolled out royal icing and used festive-themed cutters to place on top of digestive biscuits. They certainly made for a well-enjoyed treat!
Residents have had a great time getting involved in these festive activities. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Etheldred House!
