The people living at Peartree Care Home in Sydenham were recently joined by arts group, Creative Minds who came to deliver an engaging arts and craft session.
Creative Minds encourage people to connect with one and other through the power of art, so they invite team members and relatives of the people who live at Peartree to get involved in the session and take part in arts and crafts with their loved ones.
The team from Creative Minds also like to theme their art sessions around something that is relevant to the time, as this helps to engage people in current affairs and celebrations taking place around the world.
During their most recent visit, the team themed the session around Chinese New Year as it was being celebrated that same week. To join in with the celebrations, Creative Minds challenged the people taking part to make Chinese-style lanterns and decorate them.
The team started by teaching the group how to make Chinese-style lanterns using coloured pieces of card. With many skilled crafters in the room, this part wasn’t too challenging.
People were then handed pens and paints to add some decoration to their lanterns. Some decided to add some minimalistic style designs, whilst others added lots of colourful patterns and pictures onto their lanterns.
Everyone had a great afternoon exercising their creative skills, especially in the company of their loved ones.
