During the Coronavirus pandemic, Excelcare team members have been keeping the residents in good spirits to help them get through this period.
They have each had to think outside the box and come up with new activities, to ensure wellbeing is maintained. As well as these new additions, the team have been encouraging the residents to engage with national celebrations, so they can focus on the positives and get through these uncertain times with a smile.
One of the most recent celebrations that the residents at Primrose Croft joined in with was on National Dance Day. The residents really enjoy singing and dancing, so much so, that most daily activities turn into group sing-along sessions. Knowing this, the team set out to plan a day dancing that would delight all.
The first activity of the day was lead by Pearl, the Regional Wellbeing and Lifestyle Lead. She stood at the front of the room and mimed a selection of different dances, challenging the residents to see how many they could name. They ranged from Ballet and Scottish dancing to Disco, Tango and the Waltz. Watching Pearl do this with no music in the background added comedy to the session and warmed everyone up for the quiz!
While Pearl was hosting the quiz, she also shared some interesting facts about different types of dancing and why they were named as they are. For example, 'The Waltz', comes from the German word, "Walzen", which means 'to turn'.
To wrap up their celebrations, Pearl showed the residents some youtube clips of professional dancers performing. June, a resident at the home liked watching the breakdancing clips and had everyone laughing when she said, "I can spin on my head, but you'll have to wait until im less tired to see it".
It was a brilliant day celebrating National Dance Day at Primrose Croft. Not only did they enjoy a boogie, but learnt a few interesting things too!
