On 23rd July the people living at Brook House Care Home in Cambridge had a wonderful day as they celebrated National Glamorous Grandma Day.
Jade, the Lifestyle Coordinator for Brook House, thought that it would be a wonderful idea to surprise the gorgeous grandmas of the home. So, she got to work on her surprise idea.
Jade used the Brook House Facebook page to secretly ask family members to get involved by sending in anything they wanted for their grandmothers. She thought that this would be a great chance for all the grandchildren, great children, and even great-great grandchildren to get creative, be it cards, handmade items or presents.
The residents were very pleased and surprised when they found out what Jade had organised! They were overwhelmed by all of the cards, flowers, photos of their grandchildren, postcards, slippers and clothing. They had never heard of National Glamorous Grandma Day before and said that they weren’t sure where all these national days were coming from, but they liked them very much!
Marina’s family actually sent in photos of Marina from the 70’s, which were brilliant and gave everyone lots to discuss. This then led to a really interesting discussion about grandchildren and what it was like for the residents growing up into grandparents.
All the glamorous grandmas of the house were then treated to a pamper morning and got their nails filed and painted. The said that they felt very special and really appreciated the day.
