In 2019, Excelcare started a four-year partnership with arts charity ‘Magic Me‘, to bring modern forms art to residents in our care homes. Magic Me has helped to connect us with four different artistry groups that break the boundaries in their field and use thought-provoking activities to engage with groups; Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Fevered Sleep, Gecko and Curious Directive.
Initial induction sessions were held earlier this year so each of the groups could meet the residents at the homes they were matched with.
After some successful introductions, the visiting arts companies were ready to explore their different art forms with the residents. Unfortunately, plans were put on hold when the outbreak of COVID-19 was announced as it meant the arts companies couldn’t visit the homes to host these sessions. It was unfortunate as the project had just got going and everyone was excited to experience something new with these groups.
Arts Company, Fevered Sleep was partnered with Sherrell House Care Home and decided they weren’t going to let it get in the way of engaging with the residents. With many talented performers in the collective, they decided to make use of this and spread some cheer to both Sherrell House and people living in other Excelcare homes.
To do this, they recorded one of their team members singing some classic songs whilst playing the piano. The residents love classic music, especially when it’s recorded live, so we know this will make for many enjoyable afternoon sing-along sessions in the homes.
This video is being shared across the Excelcare group today, so residents can enjoy a personalised performance with their friends.
Thanks to Fevered Sleep for putting this together and making a difference, from a distance!
