The Easter holiday has been exceptional at Aliwal Manor Care Home in Cambridge this year, with the staff ensuring that the people living at the home had plenty to do not just on Easter Sunday, but throughout the whole four-day weekend.
The residents started preparing for the weekend by making wonderful Easter decorations; a firm favourite being the table display that was made for each dining room. For the table display, they decorated a piece of artificial grass with an Easter basket with a large, rainbow coloured, handmade egg inside. Then they added a handmade daffodil, a beautiful piece of bark from the garden, some fluffy chicks and a cross made from sticks.
Everyone at the home is always in awe of the splendid food displays presented to them during buffet teas, and the Easter buffet was no different. The variety that they had to choose from and the quality of the home baking was outstanding, and many said that it was like being at a 5-star restaurant, so they ensured to send their thanks to Steve and his kitchen team.
Many of the people living at Aliwal Manor love to bake, so for Easter they helped make an orange glaze to drizzle over the traditional simnel cake. Whilst making this, they talked about the simnel cake recipe and the history behind it. The fruit cake is topped with eleven marzipan balls to represent the eleven apostles of Christ, minus Judas.
Overall, everyone at Aliwal Manor had an amazing Easter, and they look forward to the next big celebration.
