On May 15th, the people living at Aliwal Manor Care Home visited the annual Whittlesey Busfest. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Busfest hasn’t been able to go ahead for the last two years, so they took the opportunity to visit the festival when it re-opened again this year.
Residents enjoy attending events in the community and meeting people who live near them. However, due to the restrictions over the last two years, trips into the community have been limited, so everyone was excited to stroll around their local town and visit the Whittlesey Busfest.
On the morning of the event, the team helped to get everyone dressed in their best attire before heading off. They walked from Aliwal Manor through the local town, looking at the sights, admiring their surroundings and saying hello to members of the community as they made their way to Busfest.
Seeing busses from the 1950s through to now brought back lots of memories. Residents recalled getting on some of the busses that were on show and some people could even remember the trips they took. Residents enjoyed looking through the open doors of each bus and seeing how they have changed throughout the years. People commented how you used to be able to hope on the back of the bus as it was moving along, whereas now, you have to wait until a bus stops before you can board. Team members who attended the event also said it was a really interesting and enjoyable day.
On their way back to Aliwal Manor, the group stopped for a drink in the sun and took photos at local landmarks like the Buttercross.
Residents said, “Lovely, I really enjoyed that,” and “We will have to do that again.” It was a wonderful day and residents can’t wait to visit again next year.
