This year, the Whittlesey community has tried their best to continue with as many of their festive events as possible, in a COVID-safe fashion of course.
However, the people who live at Aliwal Manor Care Home have been in lockdown since March, so they have been unable to have their normal Christmas rendezvous around the local village. Residents have greatly missed their festive outings and being able to see the lights and people. However, Lifestyle Co-ordinator Sarah has done her best to accommodate for this.
Sarah understood how important this was for everyone at the home, so she has done her best to keep them up to date with the goings on in Whittlesey. This started with her sharing pictures of the lights, to which they all greatly enjoyed. But then she decided to take it one step further with a new project idea.
Sarah gathered the photos that she captured of the Whittlesey Christmas lights, along with the photos of the Whittlesey poppy display that she took earlier this year. Then, she decided to laminate them and put them together as the start of a new book called ‘Bringing the outside in’.
The book will be a collection of pictures of local places that the people living at the home currently can’t visit due to lockdown and is Sarah’s way of making sure that they can still see what’s happening in the community.
Sarah sat with everyone and discussed what places they’d like to see in the book next. The top picks are currently Manor Fields, Bower and Friday Market.
This project is a wonderful idea, and everyone is very excited to see the next edition!
