Alex Southgate is a talented singer and accordion player who has been regularly providing entertainment to the people living at Goldenley Care Home.
Throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, Alex adapted to deliver entertainment virtually to keep everyone safe and in high spirits whilst spending time inside. Although in-person performances are much more interactive, the team found that these virtual performances were a powerful way to raise the mood and boost wellbeing, so to this day, they have continued to invite entertainers to provide live entertainment via video calling apps. This helps to add variety to the entertainment schedule, as residents can experience acts that may live too far away to travel to their home.
As Alex’s virtual entertainment sessions have been so well received at Goldenly, the team have continued to invite him to provide virtual entertainment sessions every Tuesday since the start of the pandemic. He plays a variety of songs from the past using his accordion and encourages residents to sing along if they know the words.
During his recent performance, Lifestyle Coordinator Faith came to join in with the session. Len took the opportunity to show off his moves and danced along to the music with Faith. The pair had a great time to dancing together and were smiling all afternoon.
After it drew to a close, Len said to Faith, “I’m not half bad am I?”
Faith smiled and said he moved very well.
Every Tuesday, Alex will continue to provide musical entertainment to the people living at Goldeley.
