Alex Southgate is a popular entertainer who usually visits Goldenley Care Home with his accordion to play for the residents. He’s very talented and the variety of nostalgic songs he plays always gets the residents singing along and recalling connected memories.
As Alex hasn’t been able to host these sessions at the home like he usually would, he’s gone above and beyond to host virtual sessions, completely free of charge, to keep residents across the country in good spirits.
After the success of the previous virtual performances, the residents at Goldenley were excited to join this recent session with Alex.
Team members put his performance through the TV in the lounge so everyone could get involved. He played a variety of classics from the 50s and 60s, before taking some requests from the residents. Hearing Alex play their favourite songs live made the afternoon more meaningful and encouraged wider involvement from the group.
Val, Roger and Evelyn are residents at Goldenley Care Home and each said what a brilliant afternoon they had listening to Alex play. Roger said how fantastic it was to watch Alex live, rather than on a pre-recorded video! Evelyn agreed and said the Irish songs he played for her were very special.
Music is something that everyone can connect with and benefit from in their own way. It also provides a boost to a person’s wellbeing as well as improving their overall mood. For these reasons, team members encourage activities that involve music, especially while friends a family are social distancing.
Thank you, Alex, for keeping a smile on the resident’s faces and continuing to delight with these free live sessions.
