Themed Days celebrated throughout January at Sherrell House

This week at Sherrell House Care Home, residents have been celebrating a number of themed days.

First was Bird Day. Residents at Sherrell House Care Home are known animal lovers and always enjoy an opportunity to get up close and personal with some furry friends. On 5th January the residents enjoyed celebrating Bird Day by making bird feeders. They used ice cream cones, peanut butter and birdseed to create a delicious snack for the birds, which they later scattered around the garden and in some of the trees. Residents commented on how happy they are to be contributing to looking after wildlife in the area and look forward to future projects.

Next, on 6th January, residents celebrated Apple Tree Day which fell on 6th January. One resident, Catherine wanted to get stuck in and plant her very own apple tree. Catherine has vowed to look after the tree through the seasons, making sure it gets plenty of water. She says she is excited to pick the apples once they have grown to share with the other residents of Sherrell House.

Finally it was the turn of Shortbread Biscuit Day. Residents never go without a biscuit when enjoying a cup of tea, so thought making their own would be a perfect way to celebrate. Residents helped to make the dough ready to roll out and cut using a variety of shaped cutters to make lots of delicious biscuits. Once made, the kitchen staff baked the biscuits just in time for resident’s afternoon tea. They commented that they thoroughly enjoyed making their own biscuits… almost as much as they enjoyed tucking into them!
