Following a successful string of sing-a-long coffee mornings, the Lifestyle Coordinators at Buchan House revisited the activity and hosted a communal session in the ‘Sunflower’ room.
Sing-a-long coffee mornings combine two of the residents favourite day to day activities, singing and chatting over tea and coffee, so the team combined the activities to add more variety and get the most out of the sessions for the residents.
Ahead of the activity, the team placed a selection of hot drinks and biscuits on the tables ready for the resident’s arrival. Although encouraged to socialise with each other, songs are played throughout the session that residents can join in with. This sense of choice helps to encourage independent decision making and provides the option for people to engage in whichever way they feel comfortable.
Throughout the morning, songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s were played as they are all familiar times for the residents and what some like to call, ‘the best musical eras’. People enjoyed singing along to the songs they knew and chatting to their friends in between tracks. It was a very sociable atmosphere that was full of high spirits, which helped to start everyone’s day with a smile.
