Essex Regional Team
Helen Bennett – Regional Director
Helen Bennett joined Excelcare in May 2016 and was appointed as Regional Director for four of the Essex homes in January 2017. Helen qualified as a Registered General Nurse and has spent 25 years in the Private Care Sector working in various Senior Management Roles.
Gloria Read – Head Of Care
Gloria has worked in the care sector since 1986 in a broad range of roles. After working for Essex County Council for 19 years, Gloria joined Excelcare in 2005. Her role is training/support and development of staff. Gloria holds: City Guilds NVQ Level 3 plus City and Guilds NVQ Care Level 4. After completing her Registered Managers Award in 2004, Gloria achieved her City Guilds National Assessors Award A1, Manual Handling Instructor 1997, as well as her Professional training Qualification, PTLLS and Associate Teaching role. Gloria is also a qualified ‘Dementia person Centred Care’ trainer and has achieved NVQ 2 and NVQ 3 in Dementia Care. Currently Gloria attends focus groups with City University London.
Karen Spicer – Head Of Care
I am a Registered General Nurse (qualified 1986) with an RMA level 4, A1 NVQ assessor award and PTLLS training qualification at level 4.
I have experience as a Registered Manager, Commissioning Manager and Trainer for healthcare training.
After leaving the NHS as a theatre nurse I have worked in social care for several corporate companies and commissioned a 92 bed new build care centre.
I then moved into training where worked for a Training provider working across Surrey, Hampshire, and Dorset teaching open and bespoke courses in health & social care and assessing NVQ in Health & Social care at level 2,3 and 4.
Lesley Pitt – Regional Coordinator
Lesley was appointed Regional Coordinator for Essex region in September 2010. After working in the insurance industry for over 20 years in various roles including credit control and HR. Lesley’s experience has led to her appointment as Chairperson of the UFI board, which is the company body representing staff. Lesley has a Business and Administration Diploma Level three.
Melanie Manning – Regional Coordinator
Melanie was appointed Regional Co-ordinator for the Essex Region in July 2016. She has previously worked in the care industry for 7 and a half years as a PA and later in a Quality, HR and Training administration role. Prior to this Melanie worked across several industries in an administrative capacity including retail and sales.
Alex Eley – Maintenance Manager
Alex has worked in the Essex Region of Excelcare since October 2012, he brought with him the many skills required for his role which he obtained since starting working with his father in his building business at the age of fifteen.
Deana Bewers – Maintenance Admin
Deana joined Excelcare in November 2016 and has had previous care experience of working and caring for the elderly mainly with dementia and how a care home runs.
Deana worked for an accountant company as a PA and office manager for two years where she obtained many administrator skills. Deana has experience of payroll, bookkeeping and purchase orders whilst looking into studying AAT.
