On 8th December 2010 Excelcare made a public commitment to work towards improving and enhancing the lives of people living with dementia across their care homes. Representatives from all regions of the Company travelled to Limetree Care Centre in London for the official launch of their Dementia Care Strategy. The Senior Management Team were also joined by Social Workers, Contract Monitoring Officers, GP’s and many other local Professionals. In addition Jon Meech; representing the Alzheimer’s Society, gave a short talk about the work of the Charity and lent his support to the Strategy.
Helping people to live with dementia is fast becoming Excelcares’ core business and they believe it is essential to provide the most up to date professional care possible. The Dementia Care Strategy is being led by Penny Howard, Excelcare’s Head of Care. Penny believes that care must be tailored to the individual and demonstrated through the use of person centred care plans and a commitment to research based practice. Many of Excelcare staff have, or are working towards, Diploma’s in dementia care; and some have higher academic qualifications. Best practice is ensured by sharing information gleaned from leaders in the field and tailoring it to the individual needs and wishes of Residents.
The launch of the Dementia Strategy is Excelcare’s public declaration to demonstrate their commitment to providing a care strategy which will assist people with dementia to live the most fulfilling life they can.
