On November 2, staff at Limetree Care Centre were delighted to receive a visit from a well known author, Sally Knocker, Director of Communications for National Association for Providers of Activities for Older people, lecturer for Dementia UK and a writer on older people care issues.
The purpose for Sally’s visit was to enable her to look at how the social care needs of Residents from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, living with dementia are cared for and enabled to lead a fulfilling life.
Limetree receives Residents from an ethnically diverse community and this is reflected in the profile of Residents. Manager, Oxana and her staff were able to introduce Sally to residents of Greek, Indian and Jamaican descent. Sally spent three hours at Limetree and was very impressed with the variety and amount of activities offered and taking place. She photocopied the information given to staff on cultural, ethnic and religious practices, and was impressed at the diversity of staff in the Home. Sally’s views will be posted on the Dementia Gateway section of the SCIE website in the near future so that the good work of the Home can be made known and provide an example of good care practice.
