Dorothy reaches 102
A former secretary has celebrated her 102nd birthday
Dorothy Armour spent the day having lunch with her family and friends before returning to Lime Court, in Dovercourt where she lives, for a special tea.
Mrs Armour moved to the area from London in 1972.
She was evacuated to Canvey Island during the First World War and worked as a medical officer in Chelmsford during the Second World War.
She has also worked at a shoe company and as a secretary to a bank manager.
Cycling was a big part of Mrs Armour’s life and she believes that is part of the reason she has lived such a long life.
She said: “I like to keep active and used to cycle everywhere.”

Excelcare & Guildmore raise money for Charity
On 6th December, at Parklands Quendon Hall, Essex, Excelcare and Guildmore began the festive season with their Christmas Party. It proved to be an idyllic setting for more than 130 guests who enjoyed an evening of good company, excellent food and music; which kept everyone on their feet until the early hours.
The party rounded off a hectic year, for both companies, and gave an opportunity for Osman and Engin Ertosun to welcome colleagues and business associates in marking their success and to express their appreciation for the part they played in achieving business targets in a very competitive year.
In addition to the celebrations fundraising was at the heart of the occasion. This year the party organiser; Sam Manning, invited staff from the regions in which the Companies operate to nominate a charity. The results of the evening were rewarding; Essex raised £250.00 for Dementia UK, London £410 for St Christopher’s Hospice, Head Office and Homecare £849.18 for Harris Hospice with St Christopher’s, Cambridge £500 for the Emergency situation in the Philippines and Milton Keynes £235 for Silver Line.
All in all a fantastic, fun night for staff and several charities benefitted from their generosity.

Mother and daughter raise money for Alzheimer’s charity
A loving granddaughter from Gidea Park has commemorated her Nan
Emma Gill, 25, has raised money for the charity Alzheimer’s Society by taking part in a Memory Walk recently in Thorndon County Park, Ilford.
She said: “My Nan was always a great inspiration to me and she always will be”.
Emma’s had suffered from the disease for the last five years of her life before she died in July last year.
It was because of her Nanny Jines that she wanted to work with Alzheimer patients and so has been working at the Sherrell House Care Centre in Chigwell for the past three years.
Emma ran alongside her mum Tracey Jines, 48, from Marks gate, for the charity and has run for Cancer Research UK and last year she climbed Mount Snowdon for Marie Curie Cancer.
Emma and her mum raised £150 for the Alzheimer’s Society and added: “Nanny is missed by all the family”.
Several companies QuickQuid, StreetUK, PayDayAllDay have appreciated her effort and volunteered to double the amounts earned.
