The strong bonds we build with the people who live here and their families are key to the success of Longfield, where we get to know each individual, enabling us to take a truly person-centred approach to care.
We provide a range of care types including respite care, long-term residential care, residential dementia care and end of life care with an expert team who go above and beyond to make the residents feel comfortable, safe and loved.
Our caring team, many of whom live locally in Maldon, Heybridge and Tollesbury, feel like part of the residents’ extended family with our small, welcoming care suites create a home from home atmosphere.
Family-run Longfield is built on just one level, with five small, self-contained suites. It sits in a quiet residential street in the attractive small town of Maldon.
The design of our five small communities creates an intimate environment, with easy access for all of the people who live here and visit us, to get about and socialise in our different communal areas, welcoming gardens and courtyards.
We are always looking to provide a great quality of life while supporting the residents to spend their time doing the things they enjoy.
Residents are encouraged to personalise their bedrooms, many of which have views over our gardens, with treasured photographs, ornaments and belongings – creating a quiet haven in which to relax away from the hustle and bustle of our busy communal spaces.
We also offer shared bedrooms so couples who join our family can stay together.
Filled with nostalgia and antique items, our reminiscence room takes people back in time – creating the perfect setting for our regular reminiscence sessions.
If music is more your thing, our large music room, complete with piano, is at the heart of the home. Residents can listen to their favourite tunes, take part in movement to music or relaxing and stimulating tai chi, as well as regular visits from local school children who join to take part.
Longfield is nestled in peaceful surroundings, just a 10-minute walk from Maldon’s pretty town centre, and far enough away to be serene and calm.
Our beautifully maintained garden and courtyards feature trees, shrubs and flowers that attract a wonderful array of wildlife and make pleasant places to do a spot of light gardening, socialise or get some fresh air with a view.
Each year, Longfield enters its gardens into the Maldon in Bloom competition, which shows off the gardening talents of the residents’ and their families. They are no strangers to being awarded for their efforts either as they have received Gold or Silver for the last three years’ running!
Our gardens are not only beautiful but they are productive too. Our green-fingered residents grow crops such as tomatoes, potatoes and herbs in the vegetable patches and lovingly tend to our fruit trees. This produce goes to our kitchens where our award-winning chef turns it into a tasty wholesome meal.
We’re incredibly proud of our mealtimes, where our chef and team create appetising, nutritious, home-cooked meals prepared from fresh seasonal ingredients, whilst catering to specific dietary and cultural preferences.
What a feast the residents enjoy, from roast dinners and home-made pies, to pastries and cakes baked fresh every day!
Supporting residents to remain happy, engaged and active are key day-to-day aims for our dedicated and skilled team. At Longfield, our enthusiastic Lifestyle Coordinators play a crucial role in doing just that, taking time to talk to each resident and their families to learn about hobbies and interests.
This enables them to draw up a packed calendar that incorporates group and individual activities and events, as well as regular day trips out.
In addition to remaining involved in previous hobbies and interests, people living here are gently encouraged to try something new. Our innovative Tovertafel Table is designed to create opportunities for social interaction whilst providing a variety of interactive games, projected onto a special table, which supports cognitive and physical activity.
We’ve built up strong relationships with our community and hold events in our home where members of the public are welcome to come along and join in the fun.
We have several local schools taking part in intergenerational initiatives too. The Up Project involves weekly visits from a local primary school to share in a variety of games and activities, while the Friary pre-school come once a month for sessions in our music room with residents.
The Grow Off initiative was also a big hit and saw children competing in a gardening competition with the residents acting as judges. We focus on everyone who takes part in having fun, as well as enabling residents and children to benefit from the friendships they form.
In a quiet residential street of the pretty town of Maldon, Longfield is five miles south of the A12, with easy access to Chelmsford, Colchester and beyond. There are also frequent buses which stop just two minutes’ away.
We are within easy walking distance of high street shops, the health centre and library, with plenty of coffee shops and an ice cream parlour to stop in on the way.
Getting out for fascinating day trips is never a problem here, with the historic Beeleigh Abbey, the pretty Promenade Park on the River Blackwater and Heybridge Basin just on our doorstep.
