Ashlyn Care Centre
Ashlyn is a 60-bed, purpose-built Care Home, with a warm and friendly atmosphere, set in the heart of Harlow. Recently modernised, Ashlyn provides residential care for older people and people with dementia and high dependency needs.
Making the decision to come into care can be difficult. At Ashlyn we are committed to making sure that all our residents are treated as individuals. We take extra care and give all the assistance necessary to help each resident settle into their new home.
At Ashlyn, we have 60 rooms and 23 with en-suite facilities.
Residential Care – 26 single rooms and one double room

Ashlyn Care Home is designed over two floors, with a safe enclosed courtyard garden situated in the centre of the Home with fenced outside gardens for our residents enjoyment. We have an excellent chef who produces fresh, home cooked traditional meals and makes sure that everyone can enjoy individual dietary needs and cultural preferences. Our facilities include:

Home Manager – Matt Abbotson
Matt joined Ashlyn in November 2013 and has 8 years’ experience working in residential and dementia care. Matt has an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, and has completed a leadership in dementia care qualification.
Deputy Manager – Sheila Kerr
Sheila has over thirty years’ experience of working in the care sector with the elderly and people living with dementia. She started with Excelcare in 2010 and I have had support from the company to grow in my role from HCA to now holding the role of Support Manager. Sheila has attended various courses to learn about dementia and ‘feelings matter’.
Administrator – Beverley Barrett
Beverley became the Administrator of Ashlyn Care Centre in June 2009 after working as a Personal Assistant for almost 15 years in London. Beverley has worked as a Secretary and Administrator for over 20 years, after completing a two year Secretarial Course at College. Beverley is responsible for all aspects of administration within the home.
Senior / Care Assistants Team
We have a team of Care Assistants who support the management team by delivering a high standard of care at all times. Our Senior Care Assistants have all achieved NVQ Level 3 in care and most of our Care Staff have either achieved or are working towards NVQ Level 2 in care.
House Keeping and Catering
At Ashlyn, we are supported by a team of hard-working and responsible housekeeping and catering staff.
At Ashlyn, we have our own Activities Coordinator who takes the time to discuss hobbies and interests with residents and relatives. She devises individual activity programmes as well as group activities to suit individual needs. A full programme of events is displayed clearly in each unit. Activities include:
- Arts & crafts
- Dementia programmes
- In-house entertainment
- Outings and picnics
- Movement to music
- Film afternoons
- Card games
- Regular visits from our pet dog
Our local community plays a vital key role with visits from various churches, and schools. Representatives of different denominations visit to meet everyone’s religious and spiritual needs. We like to celebrate special occasions at Ashlyn, for example, our Residents’ Birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Valentines day and Mothers Day.

Ashlyn Care Centre is situated in Harlow and is in easy walking distance to the local shops, park and library. A short drive or bus journey to the centre of town offers a larger selection of shops and restaurants.
There is easy access to bus and train stations, plus good road links to the A27 & A130. Harlow has a mainland railway and bus station, which offers a local bus service to Ashlyn.
The nearest Underground station is Epping, just 15 minute drive from Ashlyn. The M11 motorway, and A414 main roads are only a five-minute drive from the Ashlyn and the M25 motorway is 10 minutes drive away.
