Hunters Down

Hunters Down is a purpose built modern home which opened in November 2008, offering Nursing, Dementia Nursing and Residential Care and is situated in Hartford Road, Huntingdon. The home has separate units, each having the benefit of its own dining and living areas

Hunters Down has the benefit of its own Activities Coordinators who liaises with people and provide a wide range of activities.  These include Reminisence, Music Therapy, Arts and Crafts, Painting, Quizzes, Sing-a-longs.  A programme of events is displayed on each floor and in public areas.

Hunters Down is a 102 bedded home offering single rooms with en-suite shower facilities and a small suite of 5 luxury rooms.

Each area has its own lounge and dining rooms.

General Manager  – Nicola Berry
Nicola joined Hunters Down in December 2015. Nicola is a Registered General Nurse and a Registered Mental Health Nurse. She has qualifications in Dementia and End of Life Care as well as Teaching and Assessing. Nicola achieved the NVQ Assessors award and has several years’ experience as a Home Manager and has a Registered Managers award. She always aims to lead a team of staff that are continuously trying to improve on the care that is provided within the home. She is open, honest and approachable to residents, relatives and staff and likes to provide care in a calm and happy home.

Care Manager – Myrna Flores
Myrna is a qualified nurse and has worked as a general nurse in hospitals and the community. Myrna joined Hunters Down in 2010 as Clinical Nurse Manager, specialising on the nursing dementia unit. Myrna then became Care Manager in March 2013. Myrna is responsible for the care delivered in the home and running of the home in the absence of the General Manager.

Our Activity coordinators spend time with people, giving them one to one activities such as reading books and reminiscing using photographs.

There is always something that everyone can join in with such as prize bingo or cookery. During the nicer weather, they can also help out in the garden.

Plans of upcoming events are displayed on the notice boards around the home, along with what will be happening during the current week.

We are often invited out to join in with the community on trips and attend tea dances.

We also have Summer Fetes and Christmas parties to help raise money for the comforts fund so that we can organise outings and entertainment.

Location

Hunters Down is located close to the town centre of Huntingdon. Close by there are some lovely walks along the River Ouse and historic places to visit including Hinchingbrooke House.
