Nestled in a quiet residential area, Glennfield is a purpose-built home in the historical market town of Wisbech, close to royal Sandringham in Norfolk.

Our dedicated and long-serving team, many of whom live in nearby Wisbech, Sutton Bridge and Elm, provide a range of respite and long-term residential care, including residential dementia, nursing, nursing dementia and end of life care.

We also have a small community specifically designed to support people under 65 who are living with young-onset dementia.

“There is an astonishing level of care and love towards the people living here, as well as an atmosphere of cooperation, family spirit, respect and real skill in dealing with elderly or difficult people - all led by a manager of deep insight and massive common sense.”

Relative of Resident

“Every week I visit my brother and am always surprised at the love and positivity of the caring staff towards the residents, as well as towards their sometimes-fragile visitors. It makes what could be a challenging time far more enjoyable. Thank you to all.”

Relative of Resident

“My brother has been a resident for around three and a half years. The management team, carers, care assistants and nurses have been very professional, friendly and caring to my brother, as well as supportive to our family. He settled in very well and has been at home ever since. Thank you to all concerned”

Relative of Resident

“I would like to show my colleagues who do not work in this area what an excellent example of a care home looks like and that is Glennfield.”

Out of House GP

“Thank you for the way you look after my husband. He is very precious to us and I know he is always well looked after.”

A sensitive and caring approach

Excelcare-Glennfield-Care-Home-P1.jpgOur kind and compassionate team take the time to truly understand each precious individual who lives with us, embracing their history and future aspirations, likes, dislikes and personal preferences.

This in-depth knowledge enables us to take a person-centred approach to care, overall wellbeing, activities, and meals for each resident. These experiences are personalised according to how each resident chooses to live their life and spend their time.

For many of the people who live here, remaining as independent as possible is very important to them. With this in mind, our team is focused and skilled at understanding each person’s abilities, providing carefully-placed reassurance, support and encouragement so people have the confidence to continue to do things for themselves wherever possible.

Care underpins everything we do, and it doesn’t stop at residents but extends to families and friends as well as into our local community.

We realise that dementia and other conditions can cause a range of emotions, and can be difficult to accept and understand. With this in mind, we have set up support groups to help people gain knowledge of conditions, how they affect people differently and techniques and strategies for supporting their loved one and themselves.

It’s this inclusive approach to care and support that reflects our values, born from our family-run parent company.

Fun-filled days at Glennfield

Excelcare-Glennfield-Care-Home-P2.jpgOur days are lively and fun at Glennfield, and our friendly and homely atmosphere makes it a place that people feel a part of easily. With the support of the wider team, our Lifestyle Coordinator works with residents and those closest to them, to create a fantastic range of opportunities where people have the choice to be as involved as they wish to be.

Everything at Glennfield is designed to create fun and happy times for the people we support, from knit and natter to live entertainment, creative arts and craft classes to classic film screenings, pampering treatments to Easter, Pancake Day and birthday celebrations.

The enriching atmosphere we have created gives the chance to socialise with other residents, find new interests and promote positive feelings. Family members are always welcome, and often join us during activities as well as for lunch, dinner or afternoon tea. Other regular visitors include local school children, who visit at least once a week to spend time with residents chatting and taking part in a range of activities – the bonds and friendships formed are cherished by everyone.

We also offer many therapies that are beneficial, especially for people living with dementia. Reminiscence therapy and music therapy work at stimulating memory and self-expression, supporting confidence-building and feelings of contentment. Then there is a range of classes designed to keep people active and healthy, including fun and lively armchair exercise sessions and the ever-popular movement to music.

It is also important for us to ensure people who are nursed in bed get the same opportunities to enjoy activities so regularly take activities to them, as well as provide 1-2-1 activities for residents who prefer these to the group activities.

We make mealtimes an important time of day at Glennfields too. Residents love the dishes prepared by our chefs using the fresh produce, updating menus regularly which reflect their tastes, dietary needs and cultural preferences. Sunny and inviting, the dining rooms on our ground floor also have big patio doors opening directly onto our gorgeous landscaped gardens.

Designed for compassionate care

Excelcare-Glennfield-Care-Home-P3.jpgAt Glennfield, we have created a warm and welcoming environment in a building purposely designed to support freedom of choice, independence and a high quality of life

Glennfield is split into six care suites, each with its own dining and living areas, which are light and bright and feature quality furniture and beautiful décor. They provide the ideal setting for residents to spend their time enjoying their days whilst being an active and treasured part of our happy and close-knit community.

Each suite also features a self-contained kitchenette so residents can prepare their own breakfast or snacks throughout the day if they wish and visitors can make themselves at home.

We have our own coffee shop, which is a hub of sociability in our home. Here we host a range of activities, from card afternoons to knitting sessions, and residents often greet family members here for a chat, coffee and a slice of our latest home-made cake. We also arrange bar events with the support of Elgoods, the local brewery. Not surprisingly, they are very well attended!

En-suite bedrooms provide the perfect haven in which to rest and relax. They come fully furnished and residents are encouraged to personalise them with their own precious belongings so they become a familiar and homely place to spend time.

Many of our bedrooms overlook our landscaped gardens which are full of interest with summerhouses, blooming flowerbeds and water features. Many of our parties and activities take place on the large patio. Residents also enjoy the activity garden. Our woodland area makes a fine place to walk and chat, with pergolas and seating to rest and admire the view. If they fancy some quiet time, residents can choose the peaceful oasis of our remembrance area to reflect in tranquillity.

Glennfield is located just a mile southeast of Wisbech town centre in Cambridgeshire, with easy access via the A47 and A1101, which are both under minutes’ drive away.
