Buchan House Care Home

Buchan House is a 66-bedded Care Home, registered to provide care for people who require residential, nursing or dementia care. Buchan House has achieved 5 stars from the Environmental Health Office.

Refurbished in March 2011, Buchan House’s Dementia area has been decorated in a bright and friendly style, with street, garden and seaside themed corridors.

Each unit at Buchan House has its own lounge and dining room as well as a private and secure outdoor space. Our Sunflower and Snowdrop units are situated on the ground floor and have access to beautiful gardens, designed for people to use and enjoy. Iris unit is situated on the first floor and has a balcony for people to relax and take in the view. At Buchan House, people have access to a hairdressing salon with stylists visiting three times a week and a chiropody service, along with twice-weekly GP visits to ensure general good health and wellbeing.

As well as many communal lounges, Buchan House offers a number of quiet areas. These provide perfect opportunities for visits from friends and family, where you can enjoy time together.

Home Manager – Wojciech Kuczowski

Wojciech began his career as a carer when he started at Buchan House Care Centre, developing his experience and knowledge to become Deputy Manager in 2008. Wojciech has worked at Buchan House Care Centre since April 2005 and became Manager in 2012. Wojciech’ qualifications include NVQ Level 2, Level 4 in Health and Social Care and a Diploma in Management and Leadership.

Care Manager – Suja Mathew

Suja started working at Buchan House Care Centre in November 2012 as a Care Manager. Prior to this Suja worked in other Excelcare homes as a Registered Nurse. Suja has a nursing degree, an NVQ level 4 in management and is a mentor for nursing students and adaptation. Suja is responsible for the running of the home in the absence of the General Manager.

Our full time activities coordinator arranges a schedule of stimulating activities including:

  • Quizzes

Outside entertainers regularly visit to perform, including Chair Based Exercise Instructors and an Elvis impersonator. There are frequent outings including visits to the seaside, Wimpole Hall and the theatre.

Residential Nursing and Dementia care

Our Sunflower unit provides specialist Dementia care.

We have recently opened nursing beds within Snowdrop unit alongside our residential beds and Iris unit upstairs caters for people with residential needs.

Buchan House is set on the edge of the historical City of Cambridge and is situated on Buchan Street off King Hedges Road and is easily accessible from the A14 and M11. The guided bus stops on Kings Hedges Road, which is a 5 minute walk to Buchan House. Cambridge train station is approximately 3 miles away.
