Ashlyn Care Home in Essex, is a small but family orientated home that prides itself on close links with groups and individuals in the community. They regularly host all-inclusive events and local people help to raise money to give residents more equipment and fun days out.
At a recent meeting with the residents and team members, they requested to give something back and came up with the idea of donating a harvest festival hamper to the Rainbow Charity. This charity provides emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness. They help change lives and provide relief, making it a very worthy cause to donate towards!
On September the 10th, an empty hamper was placed in the reception with a note, explaining what the residents wanted to do with an invitation for people to put their unwanted items or things they wish to donate into the hamper. Once the hamper had been filled, the team would then wrap it up and send it off to the Rainbow charity. Residents were very keen to help out, placing their unwanted items into the hamper and asking visiting relatives to bring something with them too.
Local people, residents, relatives and friends all helped to fill the hamper with toys, treats and long-life food. On the 21st October, the hamper was ready to be sent off, an achievement that Lillian (resident) was very proud of and so posed with the finished hamper before it was sent away.
Helping people who need some support in life had all the residents feeling fulfilled and happy. They realise and can relate to living with a life-changing condition, so they hope these gifts will help to bring smiles and happiness to those who receive them.
